Born in England, Richard Chamerski came to Australia as a child when his family settled in Melbourne. He was self-taught, and found a ready audience for his works when he began exhibiting. From 1978 he was full-time painting, and his first solo exhibition was in 1983.
His style is a refresh of the Impressionism of the early 20th century, with well-used strong colours resulting in an ultra-saturated, enticing image.
