The partnership of Thomas & John Carey ran the Anchor Pottery at Lane End, Staffordshire 1823-42. One of their trade-marks was ‘SAXON STONE CHINA’, and the attribution to Carey hinges on the abbreviated SAXON CHINA mark this piece bears. The date certainly fits, and a service sold in London 2014 bore a ‘SAXON STONE’ mark with ‘Carey’, on pieces the same unique shape as pieces from this service.
