Rare Schiller & Sons Game Tureen, Cover & Stand, realistically modeled in an unglazed caneware body with three life-size newborn chicks emerging from their eggs, on a panel of straw forming the lid, the body & base moulded with basketweave & wheat sheaf.
Unmarked apart from a ‘6’ to the lid,

Original paint to eggshell, chip restored to edge of lip, one chick with rivet repair, surface with some discolouration, otherwise good condition.
An examples is known impressed ‘W S&S’, for William Schiller & Sons, Bohemia (modern day Czech). They were well known for their lightweight pottery bodies and finely molded creations. The earlier partnership with Gerbing ended in 1850, and Schiller then marked with the ‘W S&S’ mark.
