Staffordshire Porcelain sheep, poss. Alcock, c. 1835
$295.00 AUD
Staffordshire Porcelain sheep, depicted in dire need of a sheering, standing on rounded rectangular base with faint foliage moudingto top, a gold line to lower sides.
Unmarked,
possibly Samuel Alcock
circa 1835
8.5cm high, base 7cm wide
Very good condition with minimal signs of age, a lump to back of plinth is a ‘kiln addition’ from a neighboring figure that has touched & fired a small section of ‘wool’ to this base.
ref. Rice “English Porcelain Animals” p80 for a smaller example with similar base, unattributed; also p136 fig. 112 for a pair of seated sheep with similar detailing, ie. wool texture, coloured nose, eyes with upper eyeliner only, mouth & nostrils comprable. These are Samuel Alcock, giving this example a possible attribution.
