Wedgwood & Co. Ferrybridge teabowl & saucer with ‘Greek’ prints, c. 1800
Wedgwood & Co. (Ferrybridge, Yorkshire) teabowl & saucer with ‘Greek’ prints, within wide classically inspired borders, with areas picked out in iron red and bright yellow. Unmarked, circa 1800
This is the product of Ralph Wedgwood, a distant relative of Josiah Wedgwood. He & his partners used 'Wedgwood & Co' as their mark on these pieces, trading on the family name; however, the style of the prints is always a lot more naive than the actual Wedgwood products, making them easy to tell apart -and a fascinating category to collect.
