Moorabool Antiques has been selling fine quality Chinese items since 1959, when John Rosenberg established the business; today, it is in the hands of Paul Rosenberg, his son.

Paul grew up in the Antiques business, and after school studied Art History at La Trobe University. Directly after this he was in London, studying with Christies, the auction house. The result of 2 years hands-on study was a diploma in the Fine Arts from the Royal Society of the Arts, London. The vast trade network for Chinese Art in London was a perfect place to learn, with time spent in the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum, and the Sir Percival Davids Collection of Chinese Ceramics.
Back in Australia, he became an essential part of the business, and helped to highlight the vast array of quality Chinese pieces that turn up in Australia. The Asian section of Moorabool Antiques was always full of fascinating finds in ceramics, glass, silver, bronze, ivory, and jades.

We invite you to explore our selection of quality Chinese items.

We are members of the Australian Antique & Art Dealers Association, and follow their ‘code of conduct’.
All items are guaranteed to be as described in our documentation, and come with paperwork clearly stating origin, age, and all other important details. We also take pride in our ‘condition reports’, and describe all faults, flaws, and restorations.

If the item is not as described, we will refund the cost of the item. For this, there must be a written assessment by an expert in the field, detailing why the item is not as described.

We do not have a Chinese language speaking member on staff, but can translate some written text if needed; English is preferred where possible to ensure clear communication.

Chinese Shipwreck Ceramics

Geldermalsen - Nankin Cargo - Shipwreck Ceramics, c.1750

Shipwreck Ceramics…. these items are off the Geldermalsen, a Dutch trading ship that sank around 1750 pin the South China Sea. Otherwise known as the ‘Nankin Cargo’, it was recovered and sold in a series of sales in Amsterdam and London in the late 20th century.
Items from shipwrecks are very important to collectors, as they are absolutely genuine, and act as ‘handling’ pieces to increase knowledge of a period, and help identify Genuine and Fake examples on the market.
